Strong Vengeance

Fifth-generation Texas Ranger Caitlin Strong finds herself investigating the mass murder of an offshore oilrig crew that had found the long-lost wreckage of the Mother Mary.  But the same crew also uncovered something else beneath the surface of the sea, something connected to a devastating terrorist attack about to be launched on the United States by a mad American-born cleric who has recruited an army of homegrown terrorists to murder hundreds of thousands.

Jon, you have done it again! Catlin Strong is a great hero. I say hero, not heroine because she is so “strong” both physically and mentally. As you and others have said, she is a great match for Jack Reacher, who is my other favorite hero. I’m a little behind reading this latest, STRONG VENGEANCE, but you always live up to my expectations. I read and enjoy your other characters but Catlin is the best. I’ll be looking forward to her next adventure.

By far the most intriguing element in Land’s on going series is the deliberately slow peeling back of Caitlin’s hard exterior. Book by book she is feeling her way into a state of intimacy with Cort Wesley and finding herself increasingly protective of and attached to his sons. Her relationship with her Captain, D.W. Tepper, continues to reveal the extent to which she influenced and now resembles her father and grandfather. No longer sure of herself or her feelings, Caitlin’s budding vulnerability is allowing her to become more believable and less a comic book heroine.
